Vitamin K2 as MK-7 has two defended patents for heart health. First patent is for MK-7 reversing calcification of blood vessels. The second is for claims the use of MK-7 in medications and food supplements for preventing age-related stiffening of arteries, not associated with atherosclerosis. Vitamin K1 does not exhibit these functions unless the body converts it to K2 as MK-4. Since MK-4 has a much shorter life in body, 8 hours versus 3 days for MK-7, it may not exhibit the same level of beneficial effects as MK-7.
